SPARK method: A Model Created for Online Learning Design
Introducing the SPARK Model: A Revolutionary Approach to Online Instructional Design!
I'm thrilled to share the SPARK Model, developed as part of my graduate course in Learning Design Technology during my journey to completing my Master's Degree in Learning Design Technology and Digital Audience Strategies. This model offers a backward design approach rooted in constructivism, crafted to enhance online learning experiences. Here's what SPARK stands for:
⭐️ Success: Begin by defining desired learning outcomes or educational objectives to ensure success through a learner-centered approach.
📈 Progress: Select tools to measure learner progress, marking desired learning as achieved or adjusting accordingly.
🎨 Activities: Create instructional activities that leverage prior knowledge and current events, fostering a holistic learning environment.
📚 Resources: Utilize accessible resources to tackle assignments and course modules, boosting engagement.
🧠 Knowledge: Empower learners to demonstrate knowledge through realistic applications, integrating education into the real world.
To conclude, the Constructivist learning theory and Backward Design approach lay the foundation for the SPARK model. This model is learner-centered in and draws from student prior experiences to make an instructional design model that drives student engagement and success. The SPARK model can be used in a variety of educational settings, school and work alike; however, it is best suited for instances where a learning designer can draw from data to reimagine a course for optimal learning outcomes. This model can help change learning outcomes by starting with the goal of bettering educational experiences across the course (being specific with objectives), and developing progress benchmarks, creating interactive activities, leveraging accessible resources, and ensuring knowledge gained across the course sticks!
